We look for things in the environment to validate what we believe in. A lady felt that she was the only one in a financial crisis and she felt awful. And everywhere she saw, she saw the same: People flourishing and herself in a helpless and de-motivated state! I discussed with her that she has to start looking for alternatives to this belief, as beliefs beginning with ALL are usually not rational. She started challenging her belief and soon found out that “not ALL are doing well financially.” It made her feel less helpless and more determined to bring about a change in her financial situation.
(p.s: Doesn’t mean that we start reveling in other’s misery!!)
Examples of “ALL, everyone, none” beliefs.
Everyone is happy except me! Question yourself – Is it?
All of them are healthy! Question yourself – Are they?
No one is as miserable as ME! Question yourself – Is that true?
